MTA Arts for Transit and NYCT Capital Construction Company | New York, New York
During the excavation for the South Ferry Terminal, extensive portions of an 18th century, Colonial era wall were uncovered. A twenty foot section of the wall was relocated to the station’s concourse approximately 500 feet away from where it was originally found. Now commuters can experience the discovery of one of the New York’s archeological artifacts.
AMBA PLLC coordinated with both MTA Arts for Transit and Capital Construction for the precise installation requirements. The design, conservation and engineering team provided the presentation, design and technical drawings along with the specifications required for the wall’s historic preservation and installation. AMBA PLLC managed the construction process for the integration of the wall into the new station.
A silk screened glass plaque states: “The Wall is a testament to the rich history of Colonial New York, the strategic importance of the Battery during that era, and the workers who toiled to build it.”
